Heat Exchanger Nomenclature

TEMA (Tubular Exchanger Manufacturer’s Association) has provided standard nomenclature for describing different configurations of common shell & tube heat exchangers.

TEMA’s simple three letter nomenclature is an efficient and effective way to describe the front end head type, shell type and rear end head type.

For example, a fixed tubesheet exchanger having front and rear heads integral with the tubesheets and a single pass shell would be called a type NEN.
